Glass, explained.
A growing reference for the science, manufacturing, and use-cases behind modern architectural glass. Vacuum glass, low-E coatings, laminated safety glass — translated into plain English for buyers, designers, and the simply curious.
Glass types
Vacuum Glass
Vacuum-insulating glass (VIG) — a sealed double pane with a sub-atmospheric cavity, offering thin-profile thermal performance closer to triple glazing than double glazing.
Float Glass
The workhorse flat glass made by floating molten glass on a bath of molten tin. Used as the substrate for almost every other architectural glass type.
